What Is A Bridal Scarf?

First things first, what is a bridal scarf? This trending bridal accessory is the modern cousin of the wedding veil. Just as you would wear a winter scarf or chic ascot around the neck, a bridal scarf is worn around the neck with the tails trailing behind the bride.

Bridal scarves are usually made out of a light and ethereal fabric, like chiffon, and can add movement to a bride’s overall wedding day look. To wear a bridal scarf, you simply find the middle of the piece of fabric and place it on your neck with the tails of the scarf draping over your shoulders and down your back. It’s that easy!

Choosing A Bridal Scarf

Here at Lovella Bridal, we do have one Leah Da Gloria wedding gown that has a matching bridal scarf that was designed specifically for the dress. We carry other bridal scarves that can be paired with any wedding dress and even if you chose this particular Leah Da Gloria gown, you don’t have to wear the matching bridal scarf.

That is what we love about bridal fashion and styling! There are no rules you have to follow. It’s all about what you love as a bride and what makes you feel beautiful and confident. In last week’s bridal fashion advice post, we shared how to style a bridal scarf with different wedding dresses, and the sky is the limit. You can wear a scarf with an elaborate ball gown, a minimalist wedding dress, a beautiful lace gown, or a beaded and sparkle wedding dress.

The same is true when it comes to styling a bridal scarf with a wedding veil. So if you think a bridal scarf is something you want to wear on wedding day, be sure to try various options when you are wedding dress shopping. Mix and match your bridal accessories to reflect your personal style and what makes you feel confident as a bride.

Ceremony Vs Reception Looks

One very popular trend among brides is to change their wedding day look from ceremony to reception. Whether they are changing into a second dress for the wedding reception and after party, or removing their wedding dress overskirt after their first dance, brides are wanting to customize their wedding day fashion and different looks throughout the day.

Bridal accessories are another way brides can change their look throughout wedding day. This can be an easier option if you want to show off different styles but not have to necessarily change into a second wedding gown.

A wedding veil is a traditional look for the wedding ceremony and then is usually removed for the reception. One option for brides who want to wear both a bridal scarf and a veil would be to wear them both for the ceremony and then remove the veil for the reception and just wear the scarf. Or wear the veil during the ceremony and then switch to the scarf for the reception.

One thing to keep in mind when wearing a bridal scarf is that the tails usually trail behind a bride like a wedding dress train does. This can be a tripping hazard when dancing, depending on how long your bridal scarf is. Many brides will bustle their wedding dress during the reception so their train is secure and not in the way of moving around, so you could consider hemming your scarf to a shorter length to not be in the way of your feet or getting stepped on by others. You can also opt for two bridal scarves of different lengths.

No matter if you opt for a simple plain wedding veil, a pearl accented veil, or a floral lace veil, a bridal scarf can be a beautiful addition to your wedding day style. It is ultimately a personal decision to make and you will have to decide if a bridal scarf is too much or just right for you.

One last bridal styling tip: be sure to try on the full ensemble together. We always recommend purchasing your bridal accessories when you are in your wedding dress so you know everything works together in harmony. If you are wearing a veil with a crown or other headpiece, does a scarf feel like too much if you also have earrings? Don't forget that you will also have a bouquet when you walk down the aisle so just make sure you feel balanced and true to your personal style.
