What Is a Blusher Veil?
First things first, what is a wedding veil blusher? For those who may not be familiar, a blusher is the part of your veil that gently covers your face as you walk down the aisle. Traditionally, it’s lifted back during the ceremony, often by the person giving you away, creating a magical and emotional moment as you see your partner at the altar.
This is probably the most classic and iconic type of veil when you envision a bride. Not all veils will have a blusher and this is where your personal style and preferences come into play. You can opt for a veil that has a blusher or you can purchase a blusher separate from the veil.
One-Piece Veil with Blusher
The first type of blusher veil we’ll discuss is what we at Lovella Bridal affectionately call the butterfly veil. This is a one-piece design where the blusher and the veil are made from a single, seamless piece of tulle. The comb is strategically placed so that part of the tulle folds over your face while the rest flows behind you.
This is a really classic and timeless bridal look as the single piece of tulle creates a majestic and romantic effect as it flows with your movement walking down the aisle. It’s simple but elegant so it’s the perfect accessory for minimalist brides and classic brides alike.
Style Tip: If you love the butterfly style but don’t want the blusher over your face, you can leave it flipped back the entire day for a layered, voluminous look.
Another style of one-piece veil will be two separate pieces of tulle attached on the same comb. The style above is one seamless piece of tulle that will lay flat on your head. If you want a little more volume to your veil, you may opt for an attached veil and blusher that share the same comb but are two separate pieces of tulle. You won’t lose any functionality and you can still flip back the blusher, you’ll just have a bit more volume at the comb.

The other option is to purchase a veil and a blusher that are completely separate. This will be two pieces of tulle, each on their own combs. Why choose two different pieces? This gives you more versatility in how and when you wear each piece.
Opting for a separate veil and blusher allows you to mix and match your bridal accessories. You could pair a simple, plain blusher veil with an intricately lace detailed wedding veil. Having the two separate pieces of tulle on different combs will also add more volume at the comb and the veil pieces will lay differently than the single piece of tulle.
Some brides want to wear their veil all wedding day long and an easier way to do this would be to remove your long veil after the ceremony and then flip your blusher veil back and wear it flipped back for the reception. This gives you the look of still wearing a veil without having to carry a long veil around all night or worry about tripping.

A couple of bridal stylist’s tips on wearing wedding veils correctly and navigating moving around in a veil. Many brides get confused about how the veil comb should be placed. The curve of the comb should follow the shape of your head, not flipped in the opposite direction. This ensures a comfortable fit and helps the blusher fall correctly over your face.
How you hold your bridal bouquet is also important. If you are wearing a blusher veil, hold your bouquet slightly higher to allow the blusher to rest gently on the flowers and stay out of your face. This gives a little buffer of space so no annoying tulle in your lashes as you blink going down the aisle.
We recommend walking down the aisle with your blusher down and having it lifted back by the person giving you away. It creates a powerful and emotional moment at the altar and makes for beautiful photos. Then you won’t have a layer of tulle covering your face throughout all of your ceremony photos.
