If you are a bride-to-be who has begun scheduling wedding dress shopping appointments, you might be wondering if there is a best time of the month to make your appointments. Is it okay to shop for your wedding dress if you are about to or have just started your cycle? At Lovella, this is a common question we get from our brides who may have scheduled their bridal appointments weeks or months in advance, only to realize their appointment aligns with their period.

In the past, we have shared our tips and advice for managing your period and cycle on wedding day, but what about when it comes to shopping for your wedding dress? Many times, your wedding date and venue will be booked a year or more in advance, so you may not be able to predict if you will have your period on wedding weekend. The same is true when scheduling your bridal shopping appointments. Thinking about your cycle is probably not front of mind when you are excited to shop for your wedding dress! We are sharing our bridal stylist insight into whether you should cancel or attend your bridal appointment if you are on your period.

If you are a bride who realizes their wedding dress shopping appointment falls when they have their period, or you wake up on shopping day just not feeling well, you might be wondering if you should cancel your appointment or just power through and go shopping anyway. We're sharing our expert bridal stylist advice in our new video about whether you should reschedule or attend your bridal appointment if you've started your period

Personal Decision

Each and every bride is different and will have a different wedding dress shopping experience. The final decision on whether to shop for your wedding dress when you have your period is ultimately going to be a personal one. Many brides have made their wedding dress consultation appointments far in advance so they likely were not thinking about how they would be feeling weeks or months later or if their cycle would interfere with their appointment date.

Just because you have your period doesn't mean you can’t shop for your wedding dress. But if you are someone who is greatly effected by your cycle, then shopping for your wedding dress at that time might not be the greatest experience. If you feel bad or have pain from cramps or migraines, then you likely aren’t going to have fun while trying on wedding dresses and won’t be able to make a confident decision.

The same is true if you are just generally sick. If you wake up with a cold or flu, it’s probably best to reschedule your shopping appointment. You want to make sure you are in the right headspace to make a final decision on what you will wear walking down the aisle.

It’s Okay To Cancel

We know that some brides may feel bad for canceling an appointment last minute. You may even lose out on a deposit that was required to reserve your shopping appointment. In our opinion, these negative aspects are worth it to cancel an appointment if you are not feeling well and not feeling your best.

If you feel icky, you won’t really be getting a clear picture of each dress you try on. You may not be fully taking in the whole vision or really focusing on how each dress makes you feel. We want you to shop for your wedding dress when you feel beautiful and confident and ready to make a purchase decision with a clear head.

Sure, a last minute cancellation may not be the greatest, but your bridal store is likely to understand. It won’t be the most productive use of your time or your bridal stylist’s time if you are feeling under the weather from your period or a cold. Wait until you can bring in the best energy and you are excited to shop for your wedding dress.

Feeling Confident

We aim to help each and every one of our brides find their dream wedding dress that makes them feel beautiful and confident to walk down the aisle on wedding day. Now there is a difference in not feeling good due to your cycle or being ill versus not feeling confident in your body size or shape.

There is so much stigma about how women should look on wedding day and that they should be “shredding for the wedding” or have to lose weight to look amazing in their wedding dress. This is just not true. There is an amazing wedding dress out there for every bride, no matter their size.

While we encourage you to reschedule your shopping appointment if you are not feeling well or are experiencing period symptoms, the opposite is true if you are just not loving the way your body looks right now. Even if you are not at your goal weight, you should still be shopping for your wedding dress. We hear this from brides all the time too that they don’t want to buy their wedding dress until they hit a certain weight or lose a certain number of pounds. This can just add more stress to an already stressful period of wedding planning. Go ahead and shop for your dress when you don’t feel the most confident about your body. The goal in the end is to find a dress that makes you feel beautiful when you were the lest confident in your body. If you find a dress you love when you might not love your arms or your tummy or whatever it might be, you are bound to love that dress even more if you do hit your goal size.
