If you are a bride who has found your dream wedding dress, you are probably ready to begin shopping for all your bridal accessories. Or maybe you are a bride who plans to purchase your wedding dress and all your bridal accessories at one shopping appointment. Once you have found your dream wedding dress, you want to complete your bridal outfit with wedding day shoes, bridal jewelry, and maybe even a wedding veil. At Lovella, we always encourage our brides to at least try on a wedding veil when they have found the dress they want to wear on wedding day. It can help a person feel truly “bridal” and veils can give a very dramatic look on wedding day with a bit of traditional bridal vibes.

When it comes to wedding veils, you may have heard the term blusher and wondered what a blusher is and if you should wear one on your wedding day. We have all the tips and advice you need when it comes to your bridal accessories. We’ll share what a blusher is and all the things you need to consider when picking out your wedding veil and blusher.

What is a Blusher?

If you are not very familiar with bridal fashion, you might not have heard of a blusher before. Many brides know what a wedding veil is, but we are often asked what a blusher is, if it’s connected to the veil, and how to wear a blusher.

Bridal veils are made of tulle fabric, and the blusher is the piece of tulle that hangs down in front and covers your face. Think of very traditional bridal moments where the veil is lifted by the bride’s father after walking her down the aisle or is lifted by the bride’s fiancee before their first kiss.

Just like with traditional wedding veils, there are many different styles of blusher veils. Some will be connected to your bridal veil and others will be on a separate hair comb.

How to Wear a Blusher

Our recommendation for how and when to wear your blusher will depend a bit on if your blusher is attached to your veil or not. If the blusher is a separate comb, then you would slide this comb right under your bridal veil comb and then flip the fabric to cover your face. Ideally, you want the blusher to fall to about your waist or belly area. The reason for this is so that the blusher will cover the top portion of your bouquet to help pull the fabric away from your face. Be sure to have someone help you spread out your blusher so that it doesn’t gather in any bunches in front of your face.

If your blusher is attached to your veil, then you will only have one comb to insert into your bridal hairstyle. For more on how to wear a wedding veil, be sure to check out our past blog post all about how to maneuver in a wedding dress and bridal veil.

No matter if your blusher is attached to your veil or is separate, we recommend wearing your blusher covering your face for your walk down the aisle. It’s going to be a very dramatic bridal moment. We then recommend that whoever is walking you down the aisle, flip the blusher back once you make it to the alter. The blusher is going to block your face in your wedding photos and video, so you want to be sure your face is visible in your ceremony photos. Just be sure to have someone help you smooth it out in the back once it’s flipped behind you. An added bonus is that you now have some extra volume to your wedding veil.

Blusher Styles

As with wedding veils, there are different styles of blusher veils. You can purchase a blusher that has a trimmed edge, for example a satin fabric edge that might match your wedding veil. We prefer just the tulle fabric without a finished edge for the blusher.

If you opt for a blusher that does have a finished edge, it’s going to create an interruption in your overall bridal look. The satin trim is going to create a line across your wedding dress and just break up the visual look. We prefer just the tulle edge as it’s a bit more invisible when you are wearing the blusher.

Detached Blushers

The main reason we at Lovella prefer a blusher on a separate comb from the wedding veil is so brides can have a bit more versatility with their bridal looks. Many brides remove their wedding veil after the ceremony and wedding portraits so that they don’t have to worry about tripping over long fabric as they enter their reception or are dancing the night away.

We love a separate blusher veil because it offers brides the chance to have a fun bridal fashion moment when they enter their wedding reception. You could remove your long wedding veil and wear just your blusher flipped back in place of your veil. This gives you a more bridal look for entering your reception and changes up your wedding day look a bit.

At the end of the day, it will be your personal preference as to what style wedding veil and blusher you choose to wear on wedding day. Keep in mind that one of the top regrets we hear from brides after wedding day is that they wish they had worn a veil. They sometimes feel that something is missing when looking back on their wedding photos, so we encourage you to at least try on a few different veils when you are wedding dress shopping.
