Skin Care
At Lovella, in addition to giving our expert bridal fashion advice, we are often asked by our brides what else they should do leading up to wedding day to look and feel their best. They want to be sure their skin is glowing on wedding day and even beyond that for their honeymoon. Brides often wonder if they should use a body lotion or a body oil to help hydrate their skin leading up to wedding day.
Many brides get a spray tan before wedding day and want to ensure their tan looks it’s best on wedding day and lasts a long time so they are honeymoon-ready. It can be a big concern on wedding day to keep your dress fabric in tip top shape so we often hear from brides who worry about their spray tan and body lotion ruining the fabric of their wedding dress.
Exfoliate
The first step in preparing your skin to be hydrated and moisturized is to exfoliate your skin. This is easiest done in the shower and there are many great body scrubs available that can help you achieve this step. A salt or sugar scrub is a great place to start that will help you exfoliate all the dead skin cells and dry skin off your body but still be gentle on the skin.
In order for your skin to absorb and moisturizing lotion or oils, you need to remove the dry skin that will prevent your skin from becoming hydrated. You won’t want to exfoliate everyday, and keep in mind if your skin tends to be more sensitive or dry. You know your skin best. And be sure to exfoliate every part of your body so you can have soft, hydrated skin all over.
Moisturize
After exfoliating your skin, the next step is to lock in the moisture. You’ll want to choose a hydrating lotion and apply all over, particularly after you shower and exfoliate. If you are worried about getting lotion all over your clothes, a good tip is to apply your lotion in the evening before bed so it has time to soak into your skin.
Spray Tans
The secret to getting your spray tan to last longer is all in the preparation. You want to have smooth, hydrated skin in order for the spray tan to apply to your skin correctly and look even and natural. If you are properly exfoliated and moisturized, the spray tan is going to adhere to your skin better.
Continuing to moisturize after your spray tan will help lock in the color and allow your tan to last longer. This is especially true of the areas like your wrists and ankles that typically tend to show cracking in the tan first because of the fine lines. The same skin care tips can help your natural tan last longer too.
Wedding Day Skin
When it comes to moisturizing on wedding day, we actually recommend doing this step in your skin care routine the night before or very early on wedding morning. Applying your body lotion or oils the night before will give them time to soak into your skin. You definitely don’t want to be applying lotion right before you put your wedding dress on because you don’t want any transfer onto the fabric.
We have also found that some body lotions and oils can actually cause you to sweat more. If they don’t fully absorb into your skin, they can kind of sit on top and cause you to sweat more and this will lead to the lotion or stains transferring over to your wedding dress fabric.
